Abstract

Maritime transport plays a strategic role in facilitating international trade, strengthening logistics connectivity, and supporting economic growth. This study examines how maritime transport efficiency and logistics integration contribute to regional economic development through a qualitative document analysis of the World Bank’s report on maritime transport in East Asia and the Pacific and Mordor Intelligence’s report on the Asia-Pacific Sea freight forwarding market. The analysis focuses on maritime trade contributions, port infrastructure investment, sea freight forwarding market development, digital logistics, and operational challenges. The findings indicate that maritime transport supports substantial economic activity and employment, while the sea freight forwarding market demonstrates continued growth potential. The market was estimated at USD 134.91 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach USD 198.42 billion by 2030. Furthermore, port modernization, fleet renewal, digital freight platforms, and the development of full-container-load and less-than-container-load services may improve logistics coordination and shipping connectivity. However, infrastructure constraints and operational cost fluctuations remain important challenges. Maritime transport efficiency and logistics integration can promote economic growth by facilitating trade and the movement of goods. Their contributions depend on infrastructure investment, technological development, and effective coordination. As this study relies on secondary documents, its findings do not establish causal relationships.
